"Gaziantep Avrat Salatası" (Gaziantep Avrat Salad) and "Gaziantep Sakız Helva" (Gaziantep Mastic Halva)—key representatives of Gaziantep’s deep-rooted culinary culture—have been registered with geographical indications by the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office. With these new registrations, the number of products from Gaziantep holding geographical indication status has risen to 112.

As part of the geographical indication initiatives led by the Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality, Gaziantep Avrat Salatası and Gaziantep Sakız Helva were registered as products of geographical origin (specifically, as "geographical indications of origin") on September 25, 2026.

Gaziantep Avrat Salatası joined the list of products with geographical indications under registration number 1903. Prepared by combining tomatoes, onions, green peppers, and parsley with pomegranate molasses, red pepper flakes, dried mint, and salt, this dish stands out as a traditional delicacy served alongside local Gaziantep cuisine, particularly during the summer months.

Gaziantep Sakız Helva was granted geographical indication protection under registration number 1904. Made using sugar, soapwort extract, and citric acid—and containing either Antep pistachios or walnuts—this product is a traditional dessert in Gaziantep’s culinary culture, distinguished by its soft and elastic texture.

The registration of both products—based on their traditional production culture, which is inextricably linked to the province of Gaziantep, and the accumulated knowledge and craftsmanship passed down through generations—represents a significant achievement for the preservation of the city's gastronomic heritage. With these new registrations, the total number of Gaziantep products with geographical indications has risen to 112. Thus, efforts to document, preserve, and pass on Gaziantep’s rich gastronomic and cultural heritage to future generations have been further strengthened by these new registrations.
